Recipient of the Mountain Star Award
On January 25, 2024, I was one of three Concord City Councilmembers to receive the Mountain Star Award from Save Mount Diablo. It is a great honor to join those who have been recognized by this wonderful organization in prior years.
Three Concord City Councilmembers - Laura Hoffmeister, Carlyn Obringer, and myself - received the Mountain Star Aware for having "shown dedication to maximizing the potential community benefit of the Concord Naval Weapons Station reuse project through additional city parks, protection and enhancement for Mount Diablo Creek, off-site mitigation, and innovative and sustainable urban design.”
The three of us joined together to approve the selection of a new Master Developer for the Naval Weapons Station, which includes supporting further progress on this significant project and demonstrating commitment to conservation priorities for the land on and around Mount Diablo.
About the Mountain Star Award
The Mountain Star Award recognizes individuals and organizations whose contributions have been significant in helping Save Mount Diablo achieve its mission “to forever preserve the remaining natural lands on and around Mount Diablo, and to connect Mount Diablo to the rest of the Diablo Range.”
Criteria for nomination include efforts that support the preservation of Mount Diablo and the Diablo Range while enhancing the quality of life in the surrounding communities.
These include, but are not limited to, leadership, restoration, stewardship, education, legislative, research, and interpretive activities.
