Appointment to the John Muir Community Health Fund Board
In mid-December 2023, I was appointed to the John Muir Community Health Fund Board for a term ending December 31, 2026. This appointment is made by the Concord City Council, which can choose a representative to the Community Health Fund (CHF).
Because of my long career in healthcare - including some years working at John Muir Health - I am thrilled to be able to support the mission of the Community Health Fund by serving on the Board of the John Muir Community Health Fund. I like to summarize some of that mission here, but you can read more by clicking this link.
John Muir Health community benefit programs are directed towards the following vision:
- All community members achieve and maintain optimal physical and mental health
- Children succeed in school and reach their full potential
- Community members are economically independent and have access to adequate, affordable housing
- Neighborhoods are safe
- Violence, discrimination, and injustice are eliminated
- The air and water are clean, safe, and sufficient
- Community members are civically engaged and connected to their community
The Community Health Fund (CHF) performs one of John Muir Health’s most important community benefit functions. CHF distributes grants and partners with community-based, nonprofit organizations to create sustainable health initiatives that expand and enhance healthcare services for those who need them most in central and east Contra Costa County.
Since their inception in 1997, the Community Health Fund has invested more than $32 million in these health initiatives, while building a unique process aimed at identifying the county’s most pressing health needs and the most effective ways to address those needs.
CHF is committed to delivering the same kinds of results to the many more in central and east Contra Costa who still struggle to find adequate support for their health and healthcare needs.
