Fair Housing Rezoning Project 2024
Concord is undertaking an important fair housing rezoning project during 2024. This is an inclusive and public rezoning project that selects properties in higher resource neighborhoods to allow multi-family redevelopment.
Concord’s “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing” (AFFH) Rezoning Project - You can (and should) participate in this inclusive public city planning process, starting with two community meetings this week (April 22 and April 25, more info here)
This project is being completed under mandates from the State of California’s Department of Housing and Community Development. The objective of the Rezoning Project is to partner with the community (you) to address housing inequities and improve quality of life in Concord.
You can read more about the state program here. In brief, Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing combats housing discrimination, eliminates racial bias, undoes historic patterns of segregation, and lifts barriers that restrict access in order to foster inclusive communities. This is about racial equity, fair housing choice, and opportunity for all Californians - appropriate steps to enhance the common good!
I encourage everyone who can to participate in these community meetings.
